Orthodontics FAQs
Orthodontic treatment is a big step, and it’s natural to have questions about the process. To help you feel confident in your journey, we’ve answered some of the most common questions about braces, Invisalign, and orthodontic care at Varallo Orthodontics.
At what age should my child see an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. Early assessments help identify potential issues and allow for timely intervention if necessary.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Treatment time varies depending on the complexity of each case. On average, braces and Invisalign treatments take between 12-24 months, though some cases may be shorter or longer.
Does orthodontic treatment hurt?
Orthodontic treatments are designed to be as comfortable as possible. Patients may experience slight soreness or pressure after adjustments or when switching to a new set of aligners, but this discomfort is temporary and typically resolves within a few days.
What is the difference between Invisalign and braces?
Braces use metal or ceramic brackets with wires to shift teeth, while Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners. Both are effective treatment options, and Dr. Varallo will help determine the best choice based on your specific needs.
Do I still need to see my dentist during orthodontic treatment?
Yes! Regular dental checkups and cleanings are essential during orthodontic treatment to maintain good oral health and prevent cavities or gum issues.
